Looks all set for colder weather for sure. I have a pair that’s been here all year and I suspect they’ll stay - we always seem to have a pair so I do wonder if they are the same ones (probably)
Yes! In North America there are four species: red-breasted, white-breasted, pygmy and brown-headed. It looks like your Sitta europaea (nuthatch) is closest to our red-breasted (Sitta canadensis). They such cool little birds. I really hope they make it down this year. I got spoiled by the couple years where they were in every tree and the last year, not a single one.
