Chomsky argued that the preferable solution would be the model of Cold War "Nordic neutrality", where Ukraine is free to lean towards the West to the extent they please without military presence or meddling from either US or Russia. In other words, outside the imperial interests of both US and RF.

Chomsky is an intellectual pygmy caught in his own trap. His simple, one-eyed binary worldview has led him to a position where he supports imperialism and neo-nazism.
It's navel-gazing infighting, while the right steamrolls democracy.
Those were all bad, and USSR did the same.
But just because Iraq was bad doesn't mean 'West = Bad, Others = Good', which is the trap Chomsky fell into.
His default stance that "West = bad thus Other = Good" leads him to condemn Ukraine and those seeking to support it, while absolving Putin because "the naughty west expanded NATO and made him do it"
If he spouts Nazi propaganda non-stop, what's the difference?
He is now a fascist.
