It shouldn't be the main point but the point should be made that these bills are about curbing freedom of expression, trans people are just the vehicle for it

it impacts us first, is the important distinction. that's the first order effect, next is anyone who doesn't fit into "traditional" gender roles. it's all fundamentally freedom of expression.

A framing I’ve found useful when talking with fellow cis people is talking about how the attacks on trans people and the attacks on reproductive rights are the same fight in many ways. They’re both fundamentally attacks on our right to be able to make choices for our own bodies.

I know how awful and frustrating it can be when cis people struggle to see our humanity and our suffering as equal to theirs (especially self-described allies!), but I think reflecting the ways we are similar works better to build solidarity then to underline our difference.

We shouldn’t have to convince others of our mutual humanity (like any marginalized group to the dominant one), and anger is absolutely justified, but we still have a choice about what we build from it. Let this be a point of radicalizing across difference rather than a point where we turn away.
