Fellow dog owners: How do you feel about strangers walking up and petting your dog without acknowledging your existence, then walking off only having spoken to the dog? I am not a fan.

Big nope. I don’t allow people to pet my dog without my say so.
A kid stomped up to my pup announcing ‘I want to pet it!’ And reached out to grab her couple of months ago. I said no. Huge temper tantrum ensued. Enjoy that parents - teach your kid manners in future.
I find it extremely bizarre, but has only happened a handful of times. I just assume they've had enough of humans on that particular day....we all get days like that 😅
We have a three-month-old pup we’re training on the lead. Part of that is getting her to not approach every dog. But we constantly have owners taking their dog to ours because *they’ve* decided it needs socialising experience. Even if we ask them not to. “But he’s really friendly,” they say. Go away
I'm someone that the vast majority of dogs will run to, to greet. Regardless of anything their owner says. I love dogs, it's no issue to me at all, but the mortification of so many owners is quite something 🐩
I always do my poshest "OOOK, thaaat's enough before you bite the nice wo/man" and ppl whip their hands away like they're going to lose them. Heh.
She's not a biter at all, but if she's visibly anxious which she often is with new ppl, I'm 100% intervening before she feels she has to defend herself.
It's not the best plan, the most docile dog can be protective towards it's masters space,& attempt to protect it,I will always ask before I approach a dog or offer it food,Harry stays close to me when strangers approach,if the don't ask to pet him,it doesn't happen
Ah, yeah. That's double bad. Also we have a no treats on walks rule because otherwise he's going to associate treats with walks and drool the whole time.
Amazingly, some don't. I mean, we have an exceptionally cute dog/bear cross, he gets a lot of attention. But still. Some will pet him for half a minute or more, then walk off having not acknowledged you, even if you try to talk to them. It's mad.
Wow that is mad. My dogs are a bit worried about new people so I give a verbal commentary when people approach that probably prevents this and address the person too which I suppose you could try eg ‘well he hasn’t bitten anyone before’ 😂. But it is rude…
That is really mad. Like they think you're performing a mandatory public service they don't have to acknowledge or something. They're probably the same people who pet working guide dogs...

As an introvert it's the only reason I have a dog ☺️

If just talking to my dog and ignoring me, that's fine. I am a animal person and can quite happily ignore ppl.
Funny enough my wife is the same. Not ppl ppl😇
It doesn't happen to me though. Maybe I look too aggressive or something... 🤭
