Interesting that the @ccacireland.bsky.social are suggesting we spend approx. €4bn on electric cars.... while these vehicles are part of the solution, cars cause congestion and it is estimated it will cost the state €2bn by 2030....

If they do subsidise EVs they could subsiste small ones more and maybe even tax large ones, although less that taxing ICEVs.
I'm given to understand that it's very hard for an elected government to take things away from voters without alienating them. An unfortunate human characteristic.
I doubt that over all emissions will have been significantly impacted by EV uptake because the energy used to make them is greater, meaning that they need to be driven around for a few years to recoup the initial investment before showing gains. It will happen eventually.
I like the report, it is a good wake up call for us all..... however the missed opportunity for me is to mention any of the following:
- Public transport
- Just transition
- Equity
- Equality
- Energy/transport poverty
- Rural
agreed, it's a very welcome statement but needs to be reconciled with systems-thinking and a just transition. Public transport, climate resilient housing planning ( connecting transport access to where people live) critical and aligning with Just Transition Commission
