The only evidence we have to that is a poll that shows that 70% are in favor of it. There has never been a candidate in the general election that has pushed for M4A.
You're not wrong. I think the big issue is that universal healthcare (or expanded Medicare, or even the conservative ACA) gets demonized as a government takeover. If we have candidates who can frame it in an anti-corporate light, maybe it will do better? The status quo is just objectively bad.
