One of the most striking things that's very noticeable is there is almost no negative reactions to your race like in DAO and DAI. It just further adds to the sanitized feel hat the game already has big problems with. Like in DAI you could piss off even other elves as an elf inky due to some dialog.
I wonder if it's a result of the game originally being made as a live service title. It feels like the writers are shackled at almost every given point
idk how we went to tevinter of all places and it wasn't about fighting systems!! I think of how empowering it would have been to play a trans character who stands up against oppression in tevinter. wah. also there's a great video by jackdaw about the artbook that shows the cancelled original story!!
in DAI I loved how information was slowly revealed through quests and banter between characters. I look back on how much cole subtly reveals about others in his banter. how much characters contrasted each other. I wish veilguard was more about fighting systems, and not one dimensional villains
exactlyyyy and like im not asking for more ingame fantasy racism but actual tension between characters due to their ideologies, backgrounds, and realistic flaws like there was in the previous games im also not a fan how our rook needs to make a quip every second and practically all the agressive
FOR SURE. I struggled to connect with the companions for all the reasons you mentioned WAH they lack flaws and those nuanced dynamics, and then I think about cassandra in DAI who's this tough warrior lady who reads VARRIC'S romance books and how interesting their relationship is WEEPS
I vented much of my thoughts on my tumblr but I TRIED VERY HARD TO LOVE THIS GAME, and am also really disappointed. I loved the trans representation, but overall the writing doesn't have the same nuances, and I have a big problem with the way information is delivered... so much tell don't show...
