As someone who ran comms for such an org I can’t agree with this. These orgs have an audience across all platforms and people won’t move away from TwiX for a variety of reasons. These orgs aren’t supporting the platform they’re supporting their follower base there. - ThreadSky

It really isn’t that simple. Orgs listen to their members/audience cos they’ve got too much to lose otherwise, esp charities. So if a significant % of their audience remains on a platform, they stay to maintain contact. Charity memberships/audiences in particular are very fickle.

I don’t do hypothetical. Cos I don’t know any charity in our sector that has set up an account on TS.

TS was set up for a sole purpose. TwiX may be toxic at certain levels but it is far from 100% bad as many good people/accounts remain there for a variety of reasons.

Charities in particular will be listening carefully to their members/audience and may shut down on a platform if they reach a certain tipping point/situation. It will be a fluid and complicated situation for many.

Yeah, looking around. Just about every organisation on the planet is clinging to it's twitter presence for fear of losing followers! It's really disappointing lol. Talk about the tail wagging the dog. Or is it that most people go about their day on X not realising, or not seeing the bad things.?

I don’t see orgs clinging on to anything. Those I’m seeing have probably lost < 1% of their followers. For smaller charities social media has been a revolution and they may have spent many years building community and that hasn’t changed.

And personally I see very little of the toxicity others see unless I allow it to come into my timeline. It’s easy to manage your account to cut out most of the crap. I regularly unfollow, block and mute others to keep my TL clean.

What I do think however is orgs need to up their game on here (as the TwiX alternative) to signal to people that there is an alternative. Until folk see/hear that the orgs they are part of offer the same service/content here as on TWiX, then change will be very slow. Orgs do need to be proactive.

I moved over a while ago, and last week, I finally deleted my twitter account, and already I feel a lot better for it. Hopefully, if a couple of organisations will make a move then others will follow. You're doing a great job promoting Bluesky.
