Thank you! That is very kind. I do try hard, online and irl, but it’s all deduction, experimentation, and learning from failure, and I know I fail a LOT.

One time I was at the airport years and years ago and this lady was struggling with a kindergarten-ish kid, a baby, a stroller and bags and I asked if I could help. I expected to be asked to hold the stroller or a bag and she handed me her baby and turned back to her stuff with her back to me.

Yeah, I’d have handed you something else!

Multiple times, there’s been a dude with a woman who is struggling with bags and kids. I offer to help and she hands me a toddler or baby. Dude’s hands stay free (except for his phone). HOLD YOUR KID, MY DUDE.

So: Change is needed imo. I’m not sure it can be made to happen without other major overhauls happening first. And I’m especially unsure if change can happen without harming the athletes.

A lot of people are invested in this system — coaches, judges, schools, etc. — and getting buy in would be difficult. And I worry about screwing over the athletes, who may be training and planning with the current system in mind.

Not an expert and did no research! But there are obviously big problems with the scoring system — not clear, not consistent, no real feedback mechanisms for the judges.

However. I have no evidence (some might exist!) that there’s a way to make it significantly better.
