"Don't like" is a bit strong, but I never really vibed with Pulp or Jarvis Cocker on the whole. Common People is maybe my favourite song of the Britpop era though. Love everything about it, and it's an all time great song of the 90s imo.

To each their own! My parents loved them and played them a lot when we were kids, but I never really vibed with much of their work beyond this one song. Always loved it melodically and arrangement-wise, and warmed to it even more as I got old enough to actually understand the lyrics.
Yeah, it was definitely overplayed at the time! I think I probably benefitted from being a wee bit younger by the sounds of things. Wasn't really listening to music outside of what my parents played so I didn't hear it as much, and by the time I got older, I feel like Pulp's star had sort of faded.
Don't remember them continuing to have the same airplay into my teens versus other famous bands of the 90s like Nirvana, Oasis, and Blur, so the song was able to escape fatigue for me I think! I sort of forgot about it and then rediscovered it when I was seventeen.
Yeah I don’t go back to the likes of blur and oasis as much even though at the time they were definitely the ones I listened to the most, usually it’s stuff like idlewild or the verve or SFA that I get big time nostalgic for of that era
I should probably revisit some of their other material in truth. I say I don't particularly like them, but outside of this and a few other hits like Disco 2000, it's been an awful long time since I've heard any Pulp now.
