I don't think he's necessarily crying about it, it sounds like he's genuinely curious from a developer's perspective about what it is about the AI that makes his daughter want to turn it off. Honestly, my suggestion would be to ask her directly instead of asking a bunch of randos online.

But just yesterday I was playing with an imaginative kid who used one prop in a variety of ways while all the adults thought of ways to customize the generic prop for less flexibility of play.
He thinks he’s looking for feedback, but emotionally? With all of that justification? He invested himself in the gift, especially the LLM side, and now feels rejected. But lacks the emotional tools to articulate it.
I dunno if he is hurt or curious but I do feel it's pretty darn likely that the kid just finds it boring and annoying
