Linda Lavin’s gift was that she was always so real — so present. There was never a hint of artifice. I grew up loving her on the sitcom “Alice,” but my favorite of all her many roles was as Marjorie Taub, in 2000, in Charles Busch’s brilliant Broadway play, “The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife.”
