About 2,500 homeless people died in Los Angeles County in 2023, perishing at a rate of 6.9 per day, health officials reported today.
Drug or alcohol overdoses were the cause of 45% of those deaths. Of those, 70% involved fentanyl, the LA Times' Doug Smith reports.
