Why on earth would a government want to threaten the health and wellbeing of it's constituents?
The US has been a leader in medical research and breakthroughs. Now Americans and the rest of the world are aghast at the undoing of our once top notch medical and research establishments.

Because the rich that own everything have nothing but contempt for us peasants. They want us dead so they can buy what remains of our property for pennies on the dollar. They'll weather the crash and come out wealthier on the other side of it just like they always do.
