Down south, we called them Buttercups. Even though Buttercups belong to a different genus, Ranunculus, while daffodils belong to the Narcissus genus. Not that I really know what either one of those are.
... and people ask me why I moved North where life is simple.
CA we have Shooting Star, Poppys,Lupines,Paint Brush,Wild Watercress,
a very small close to the ground bunches of wilds that resemble Snapdragons, Trilliums, Forget Me Nots & so many many more I have lost count.
Costal Wild Heather, Tiger Lilies that shock you high in the mountains.
I'll never forget my first desert spring. We were in Earp, CA. I felt like I was stoned off my ass. I just kept walking around touching stuff. You don't see that kind of contrast on the East Coast. I had to dig back thru the photos. Are these yellow flowers Buttercups?

Folks are raised in TX but we lived in CA. Used to those plethora of speciecs. Right before dawn they smell like sweet tea.

I'll have to try.
With my face, they may just wilt and turn black ⚫️
