So as a previous very heavy user of #Amazon I’ve been just cutting off all my spend to see what the replacements will be. Turns out in the UK Argos & Screwfix are basically a 90% replacement. For smaller/specialist stuff

That’s great! Nearest branch is minutes from my village & have been delighted by them lately. Needed an EU to UK tap tail adapter pair at like 7pm on a Friday? Had one in hand in 15 minutes saving me from no working kitchen sink for the weekend. Popping down for art hanging supplies later!
if they are on Amazon then they likely have their own web front and Shopify, while are some “freeze peach” issues is not actively collaborationist, is making that easier. I got off kindle years ago and buy my books from the local indie but everything else is surprisingly easy to replace
(to be clear this isn’t a trial. I’m done with them, just seeing what after amazon looks like. will be shitcanning all the alexa stuff for my family next)
The other advantage is by going direct the vendor (i.e. a useful part of the supply chain) gets way more revenue. With Amazon taking 30-50% vs shopify’s flat fee plus ~3%, the money is making the business more sustainable
