i'm furious that gang patch legislation has been used against children and not man up. i'm furious that the anti stalking law will likely be used against activists outside luxon's house more than the cops will ever use it to protect women. i'm furious at people who still believe cops can fix this.

i ask you all to see things clearly. the state cannot save us. the state is set up to let this slowly rotting status quo get worse and worse. if they can force queer people out of public life without being seen doing it themselves, that's good for them. we need to take this into our own hands.

what that means is this: we need to commit to community. we need to refuse to shrink into smaller versions of ourselves that are distrusting, antisocial, paranoid. we need to instead recognise that they want us that way. we need to build strong relationships locally and nationally.

one of the fundamentals of organising is that there are going to be people you don't like — people you think are cringe, or your flatmate's ex, or whatever. you don't have to like other trans and queer people to organise with them. you just have to have their back and trust they have yours.

it's been ten years since no pride in prisons was formed. for the most part, papa has moved out of queer spaces into supporting all people affected by prisons. but we're going to be at pride this year, because we want to open the conversation again. auckland decided no cops at pride. now what?
