My Conservative uncle (here in Canada) said today that if persecution of trans folks in the US escalates he will open his doors to shelter trans refugees. The world is watching.

The hard thing is getting to Canada the literally to get a passport fast is about $500 other wise your waiting 6 months and their also talking about putting troops at the north borders to prevent mass exodus

History shows us that good people step up in Canada. I dont know in what form things will look like now, but god forbid it becomes needed, I will be part of it.

You can claim asylum in Canada as an American refugee.

You can file for refugee status at any Canadian port of entry, embassy or consulate, or through a refugee organization.
I dont recommend sneaking across the border (which some folks do, turn themselves in, and claim asylum from there).
It can be dangerous esp in winter.
Desperate times tho for many

I also don't think we (transgender) count towards Asylum status yet in Canada. I think it has to get worst here for that to be open too us.

Passports are not necessary when claiming asylum. Though holding a passport from your own country is helpful so they know you arent a war criminal or something.

Passports come later once you apply for citizenship far down the road.
