Yes, in the end there is a choice to be made.
The US have made it quite clear their objective is to weaken Europe.

And if Trump can change tariffs at will and ignore a USA Supreme Court ruling, then any deal with him isn’t worth the paper it’s written on or the sharpie it’s signed with.

it’s time for Starmer to man up, everything trumps regime is doing is wilfully destructive and time and time again they show contempt for checks and balances. History will judge Starmer and I fear he may be be on wrong side of it

To fail to choose is a choice. If we lean to the US, the EU will likely lean away from us. The rationale for leaning into the US feels a lot like Brexit and British fish… talismanic but of limited real value
