Just so I'm clear, they originally said Israeli soldier and walked it back to a man in fatigues?

Yeah I also was like "oh so they fixed it?" until I saw the timestamps and noticed that they censored israeli violence.

My understanding of this is that the opposite occurred. The latter headline with "Israeli Soldier" ended up being the final product.

Good job you don't work for an academic journal or you would get fired for reposting the Onion 😔
