This is the reason I moved to the east coast. West coast is out of my price range, central US is built too spread out, and the south couldn't care less if I were dying.

I just moved from Austin to Long Beach and couldn’t be happier! I think there are certainly more affordable areas in CA if you do some digging; good luck!

As someone that grew up in Texas, lived in Maryland for a while, and then ended up here in WA - you might like MD or Northern VA. Not as hot as the south, a bit more temperate, and still very progressive
