I never understood this.. wouldn’t it make more sense to stop auditing the poorer classes of people, and keep focused on the people that actually have money? Just never made sense why they care about going after the people with $100 in their account more than ones with millions.

It’s intentional of course- the rules are written by the wealthy to help the wealthy . What we ought to do is to outsource auditing and tax collection of the most wealthy to outside accounting and law firms on a contingency fee basis . The recoveries would likely be in the hundreds of billions.
