Now imagine being a consumer, and having it shoved down your throat.
Why aren’t they using it for _dialog_??
Anyone who has ever played a big CRPG knows the routine.
This is a where AIs can do better than humans, because they won’t be drawing from a fixed finite pool of dialog
Most professionals see how bad "AI" is in their own field and have tried to tell others.
Here's an article on using LLMs for dialog generation: https://hey.paris/posts/constraints-are-the-point/
I should have clarified that my suggestion was more for texture/background than primary dialog or central NPCs. The sort of stuff you hear repeated 1000 times as you go about your business in the game world.
Since doubling the number of such voice lines should reduce repetitiveness by 50%, the issue could be almost solved with more time & money.
With those characters, you’re not trying to tell a story so much as make the world feel alive. So if they go about their business having spontaneous, contextually appropriate but “meaningless” conversations, maybe ok?
