Dutton is pretty clearly not a sincere operator in the climate / energy debate. Endlessly rehashing this debate is pretty clearly distracting from a few key things:
- Why Aus has seen so many wobbles in power system decarbonisation
- How to get back on a steady track out to 2030

You can have a renewable-heavy power system that is still exposed to gas price-setting, mismanagement, profiteering etc. The design matters a lot!
We don't politicians deciding what generators run and what they are paid.
Taming wholesale price volatility also reduces hedging costs.
Network costs and other retail costs are harder to lower.
