European magpies (I assume that's what this is??) are so clever and cute. They don't seem to get the same love here that Australian magpies do over there.

I love them and so do my dog, she share her food with them, sometimes she even waits for them to show up before she starts to eat. Or maybe she is just manipulated by some strange magpie trick.
omg talking about them being chaos gremlins, just right now after i typed this there were 2 jackdaws on the street fighting, with one jackdaw on his back and the other jackdaw holding them down and picking at them. and a random magpie joined in and started picking at the bottom jackdaw lol
Yes it's the European magpie and we have loads coming to my back garden. They are very dominating to other birds and show their dominance by giving alarm calls if predators are around like cats, dogs or raptors. Australian and newzealand magpies are just amazing
´Fraid so! In several countries (UK, France, at least), a solitary magpie is thought to be bad luck, hence it's safer to greet them with 'Good morning, Mr Magpie, I hope Mrs M is well, and all the little magpies'.
I remember watching one of those PBS nature shows about Marabou Storks, & there's a scene where it's fledgling season in a colony of songbirds. The babies jump or fall out of the nests in a big tree, and the storks underneath just gobble them up. Horrifying!
@ketanjoshi.co I love magpies, though they have an undeserved bad reputation. They sometimes collect shiny things, which gives them the nickname "thieving magpie". How are they supposed to know the difference between a discarded foil wrapper and a ring that someone left near an open window? […]
They're fairly wary birds. Nowhere near as clever as Aussie magpies. I used to walk my dogs through a family group of Aussie magpies and would never let the dogs chase them, but would stop and whistle to them. I was the only person in that park who was never swooped in nesting season.
