There’s some genuinely hard issues to grapple with in here (without endorsing the solutions offered). But a fatal problem for the piece is that the US is no more capable of consistently pursuing the offered strategy than the one to be replaced, absent major political change.

Like there isn’t going to be acknowledgement of physical threats and adaptation needs from anything resembling the current Admin - comprehensive denial instead. Influential people in the Admin tent hate geoengineering for chemtrails reasons. Trade angle: too busy ripping down broad trade.

Also narrowing chosen "solutions" to a few simple and (seemingly) quick items, where one person can be a big enough part to play hero. More fun than accepting there are no silver bullets or easy answers, just millions of us (mostly thanklessly) doing our best to turn the ship a little bit each day.

It’s always kind of amusing when they say we should “test” geoengineering because we know they want to say we should get ready to deploy it but they can’t say that because it’s too scary.

I guess they’re laying the groundwork for it.
