It's just the keyword matching in ad systems that news companies always shrug and say "it's fully automated we can't do anything about it" even though the slightest bit of oversight and doing keyword blacklisting when submitting articles could do something about it.

When publishing articles have options to say "article topic: person OD'd" "if an ad searches these words at all do NOT match it: death, retirement, funeral services" "if an ad matches these prioritise it: mental health, hotline" and make sure editors use them.

Yep. They've taken the same ad placement systems and pushed it out to the print papers to so they can do away with oversight and do the same shoulder shrugging. Even though it's something very easy to act on and do something about. And the oversight body's accept the excuses pathetically.

Yeah, I've heard that excuse SO MANY times and the performed helplessness here is completely absurd and I really have a go at them when they try to pull that excuse. It bugs me because when they put their mind to forcing overconsumption, lying to people, making profits etc the sky's the limit
