Is this really a loss to those in red states? Whatever they may have gotten from the DeptOfEd, it didn't seem to help them much as far as their education. They still seem to lack critical thinking; that is, they still seem to vote against their own interest.
Honestly, given how many red voters didn't even know what a tariff was, they probably won't notice their kids learn to do yardwork, not math, in schools.
Why are we wasting money on them? It's not like those states have an educated population so it's obviously not needed.
Let Republican run states bear the costs of their idiocy.
It's simplistic, but my take away from this is the various State's use of those funds was ineffective for the parents, so they want to eliminate it for everyone? Is that too much simplification?
The US Dept. of Education funds special education.
"The Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS), also a component of the U.S. Department of Education, administers the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), a statute which funds special education programs."
There are federal requirements that will force them to raise taxes to pay the difference for things like disabled children and ADA requirements which are still federal law. I imagine they will be big mad.
A lot of this funding goes directly towards disabled children and helping them. It will still be required by federal law to help them, so the money will need to be taxed locally from residents. The states towards the right will need to create revenue to meet/maintain the legal requirements.
I'll look later if I have time, but probably in part, yes. The fewer state/local dollars, the larger the share fed dollars will be. But there are also notable differences in absolute $ per student, which also tilts red.
