54. Canon Fodder. I’m not normally a fan of games that try and reflect realistic war, as they feel glorified. But Canon Fodder is different. As the title suggests. You’re playing at war, but with an anti-war message. The gameplay works nicely. Best on the Amiga, but Mega Drive is good too. #365games

55. The Ninja. As a child, during the summer if my mum and dad were both working, we’d go to a “play scheme”. They had a Master System, and this is the main game I remember playing. It’s basically a SHMUP, but you’re a dude who throws shurikens. A formative gaming experience for me though. #365games

56. Shovel Knight. This is a superb retro platformer, with a fantastic soundtrack. I took a chance on it in a Nintendo eshop sale, and I am very happy I did. It’s got great gameplay, with some cracking skill challenges. And it all looks and sounds great. Really fun stuff. #365games

57. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Another all timer. For a lot of people, probably. It was the first Zelda I owned, and completed. And it remains one of my favourite games to this day. I’ve played it through so many times. The 3DS remake is great too. #365games

58. 64th Street: A Detective Story. This is a recent discovery. A friend was telling me about it, and then I realised I had it on the @evercade.co.uk. It’s supposedly set in the 1930s, but the game has no concessions to this beyond the main characters. It’s really daft, and I love it. #365games

59. Alleyway. There are lots of these block breaking games. This is the first of two on my list. This one is on there because you get to occasionally smash up Mario characters, and because I love the idea that the paddle is a weird spacecraft being piloted by Mario for some reason. #365games
