While Usagi isn't white, the blonde and blue-eyed thing really made white women fixate on her super hard, huh. 'Wow I wanna be a special Aryan moon princess' etc, no wonder any hint of criticism turns them into complete banshees.

There's something very funny about Pluto, the one and only dark-skinned woman in the cast, having spent the majority of her life (centuries btw) in complete isolation.
The royal moon family being like, we're not racist or anything, our dark-skinned servant has to be put out of sight because uhhh she guards time travel. Not because the sight of a woman with skin darker than paper cramps our style. Luckily she knows her place and babysits our daughter sometimes.
That's another thing I remember, them either whitewashing the hell out of Pluto or shunting her off to the Space-Time Door (a duty Queen Serenity gave her as a child btw) so they don't have to give her screentime.
I remember someone saying in an interview people didn't want to draw her skin tone
These outfits are very dignified and suitable for combat. It's very feminist that teenage girls enter battle dressed in bikinis. SM is feminist, unlike all the other male-gaze... oh.
Takeuchi is a horny artist. Many shoujo mangaka are. Not an excuse, but the person who made me do a double take was Hanamori Pink giving the 13 year old mermaids silicon boobs.
oh I 100% agree, a LOT of female manga authors are just wildly horny. but a lot of westerners have this weird idea of these manga being sacred feminist texts and it's just not lol
So confused on these guys. On one hand, trans Senshi? Based? On the other hand, I don't care about these characters at all, and on the other other hand Takeuchi had a real issue with them being depicted as men or masculine in the nime, because boys can't be Sailor Guardians or something
yeah I don't think people want to confront how cissexist Takeuchi is (and, if we come down to it, how come the butch girls have to wear skimpy feminine clothes like everyone else once transformed? you literally can't access your magic unless you're gender-conforming then?)
It was really funny when Viz redubbed the show and an amount of people became really weird about the fact that Viz didn't call her Serena like the 90s dub did.
