Oh dear hell… My latest crochet discerning moment was in a Five Below for the 1st time. Saw a circular pillow with yarn work overlaying the top & bored my husband with trying to figure out if those double crochet looking stitches were dcs or not since I haven’t heard of a machine able to do that yet
When we’re out shopping I’m always stopping to look at the cheap machine knits and saying ‘I could make that cheaper and it’d last for years’ etc…my OH just eye rolls 🙄😂
Omgosh! I’d love to know your thoughts on this since possibly all clothing is knitted by machines (at least I think so, esp when looking at my own). Have you noticed differences throughout your life in knit clothing qualities shifting?
For sure, yes. There’s so much more machine made pieces these days…when I was younger practically all knitwear was made by hand. I think we should go back to how it was 50 years ago
I would enjoy shifting humanity away from mass, rampant consumerism & unnecessary waste, so I agree! Having less clothing but having it last decades of wear and tear would be great. Also making sewing mandatory for every school student would be fantastic. Less waste, less pollution.
