I am so sick of news outlets and politicians pointing to the stock market as an indicator of market health. Like great, so glad millionaires are doing well, but have you seen the price of milk?!
You have just described the single biggest driving of the mass adoption of fascism that the establishment absolutely refuse to acknowledge. My big criticism of the new government here is that they still "just don't get it."
It's why the Dems lost. The common person is suffering and they trot up and say "um actually if you look at things from a market and macro economic perspective we are doing well" and not acknowledging real problems.
And Starmer is behaving in exactly the same way..and it is big reason I worry they might lose in 2025...to Reform UK or a RUK/CON coalition. Trouble is, I think Labour are more comfortable with this than actually behaving like a /real/ Labour party in order to stop it.
It blows my mind that our media has for over a century has treated a speculation market as the measure of our economy. A market that nearly 90% of people aren't involved in ant deeply meaningful way. Meanwhile, the measurement on averages of income over debt affects everybody... 🙄
I am certain Aaron Rupaar, because he constantly peddles misinformation on behalf of the ultra-rich, and the stock market only indicates that the ultra-rich and upper-middle class are the only people benefitting from the economy in this specific area, so Aaron doesn't consider us 'poors' Americans.
Pretty much. Every time I've heard a leftist Youtube video talk about how great Biden made the economy I've wished them a hearty demonetization for missing the damn problem.
With only 0.5% of all companies dealing in stocks it's most certainly not a good measure for the economy as a whole. But the Economy that media usually refers to and what is actually the economy as a whole haven't been the same thing in decades.

If you're lower middle class or barely getting by, which is a majority of MAGA voters ...the economy feels like it's in a freefall
No honey, that's called Late Stage Capitalism...it's by design.
I'm assuming the stat is based on ppl who hold individual stocks.
And guess when that happened?
In 2020 during the lockdowns
