It's what I call "A franchise on life support." A franchise that is still somewhat kept in the public eye due to it's legacy (maybe you'll get some new merch every now and then), but barely has any new material coming out nowadays (think "Casper The Friendly Ghost" or "Felix the Cat").

That's one reason why people were looking forward to the new animated series, Doug TenNapel had absolutely nothing to do with it. The Twitter account created for said show even stated they supported trans rights in order to make it clear that project would be separate from him.
