CleanBC's emission reduction goals are “no longer accurate or workable,” according to briefing docs prepared for the environment minister
Why? Because the government changed "several policies" in the CleanBC Roadmap, yielding "significantly less emission reduction than initially modelled" #bcpoli

B.C.'s emissions were almost exactly the same in 2024 as they were in 2007 — despite spending $3.5 billion on CleanBC, a provincial program to reduce them by 16%, a goal the NDP admits is no longer "accurate or workable." @sevawood.bsky.social reports thenarwhal.ca/bc-emissions...

- BC's population has grown from 4.1M to more than 5.5M
- BC's GDP has grown from $212B to $304B in 2023 (in 2017 $s)
- Emissions haven't grown
Do we need to redouble efforts? Yes.
This one is about how the government is now describing CleanBC's goals as unworkable and unrealistic, partly due to its own policy choices, some of which it says cut into emission reduction projections
Unfortunately, the section of the briefing documents where it looks like those policies were listed is redacted 🤷♀️
