I don't remember how I reacted to this the first time around. I definitely didn't understand why mars was really doing this at the time. though her supposed reaction to achilles is understandable I feel like. someone fucks with you all the time and you have no recourse, you'll probly do /something/

Noticing the roses and spending time and effort to pull them all up, brings more attention to her actions rather than walking past and ignoring them.
I can see it's her trying to get a rise out of Achilles.
What she does know very well is just existing gets rises out of Achillies

I find this interesting because It's a typical strategy by insecure people to continually threaten with violence and be really rude to keep people away, like you said, it's not working on Achilles, I think it's scaring Mars.
We get hints Mars is closed off (her house), someone getting close is scary

Claire made someone who is very closed off, who doesn't want people getting close to be friends with Chloe.
Each resident imo is made to interact with Chloe and not each other, Chloe would never get invited into Mars house.
Achilles is completely different to Chloe

And I just remembered, this strategy of her's DID work on Achilles before.
Despite all her threats of violence she never actually hits anyone, but the one time she gets physical, it's with Achilles (pushing him) and it completely changes his thought process.
Making her strategy not work on him.

Seems to be a lot of empty threats from mars. Shes not actually mean, she just doesnt want to (or know how to in some situations) interact with others in a normal way. Especially about topics involving herself. The “take a hint dumbass” vs “doesnt understand social cues” thing they have is cute
