Nice to see Vib Ribbon in “the six”. When I got rid of all my PS1 gear BITD I sold my copy for more than what I got for the console… 😉

I think it’s a great and often overlooked game. No one needs to see another video of Tomb Raider. Plus I’d argue Vib still holds up, which is where I’ve started directing these best-ofs.

Yeah definitely overlooked - most friends hadn't even heard of it.

Took trial and error with CDs to figure out tracks to give an optimal experience, but that was half the fun!

Good plan too! No-one needs to be reminded of Tomb Raider, FF VII etc. yet again, and there is a huge library of gems! 👍

Parappa the Rapper and Metal Gear Solid were among my favourite PS1 games. These and Wipeout 2097. Also, back in 1994, I would not have put money on games being the main revenue stream for Sony 30 years on, and that their hifi/portable revenue would be a rounding error.

Retro prices have gone nuts. When I reviewed the Atari 2600+, sourcing original carts was a nightmare. But it’s the same for almost every system. Funny to think 10–20 years ago, you could barely give stuff away. I offloaded an entire box of Zzap!64 mags, for shipping. These days? £10+ each.

Ta. It’s always hard to narrow these down to six, and a risk of only covering the usual suspects. So I’m trying to mix representative and still worth playing. But everyone will have their favourites.

Good call on Castlevania SotN. It met with lukewarm-at-best critical response from the gaming press; it’s still one of the most influential PS1 games in terms of what gets produced by indie developers.

Thanks. For me, it still holds up. I think that’s important when revisiting titles from older systems. And I’m not surprised people didn’t like it at the time, but it’s dated a whole lot better than all the ‘enforced 3D’ games on the system.
