the problem with this line of "well, the NYT does bad things but they do good work" is that it's clear the NYT considers the bad things they do a vital part of their editorial and political line, and so to them it is no longer "accidentally stepping on rakes"--it's "an active choice we make"

4/ But no, you shouldn’t cancel your sub. The NYT is our last powerful paper, and the most consequential journalism outfit in the country. I just wish they’d stop stepping on rakes and have a way to take in criticism and report out on their choices, good or bad.
