I like presentations which barely have written text - I can't read and listen simultaneously so if I'm expected to do both one of them will lose out. So images are great. If I need written notes of the content I'd rather get a separate document afterwards.

Like - showcase skills the person spec. asks for, ie if you will be presenting/teaching in the role I want to see how you handle tech and delivery and timing, content less important. Dislike - ignore the brief, don't stick to time.

Like - slides are an outline and launching pad for what person is saying
- people who know their topic backwards & are enthusiastic
Dislikes - too much text on slides
- where person reads out text on slides without adding anything
- presentations that don't stick to the time limit (under or over)

Recently gave a short presentation with simultaneous translation. So made a point of refining a script (with slide cues) that I shared with interpreters/organiser. On the day, organiser announced they’d control slides, “say when you want the next one”
Which rather defeated the point of sharing cues.

Like to see passion and interest in what presenting on. Want them to listen to and answer questions in engaging way. Want clear structure and also personality. Dislike too much text and busyness and going over time.

And what I'm looking for isn't an idea of a perfect presentation but someone able to communicate as the job requires so role dependant, but about credibility, ability to address audience, confidence... and obviously we know people will be nervous!

If it is in person and there is an excuse I quite like a little bit of collateral. Makes it easier to remember your presentation later and you can use it as prompts for yourself. If you forget something key in the stress your little flyer will show you had thought of it
