It’s a superb game - love grid system and @aquestingvole.bsky.social has done it immense justice with his 1:72 units / table. Brings it all to life and it’s very hard to beat the visual spectacle of massed battle Napoleonics. Rules wise it’s far more nuanced than Memoir’44 with a lot more crunch!

Yeah, I agree, I played M'44 the other day for the first time in years and it felt a little flat, having played the Napoloenics more recently. M'44 is a good game, but feels more like an introductory game to the C&C stable, IMO.

Spot on, Alex. Love M’44, and its modern focus comes easier to me. Napoleonic tactics etc don’t, as I’m far less familiar with them and are more involved (as you know!) in terms of getting arty/cav/inf working together. I could see the challenge and enjoyed immensely, even if working hard to get it!

Fantastic game - over a leisurely 2.5 hours I think. Solid French win in the end 13-6 (I think) at the end of my final turn, albeit twas first to 10. Super game - far more nuance than Memoir’44.
