Xi clearly didn’t do it wrong, he’s (along with the CPC) literally responsible for China’s Targeted Poverty Alleviation program, which lifted hundreds of millions of people out of extreme poverty.

To live among the people was not “asceticism,” it wasn’t a lifestyle choice to “find himself” or whatever you Americans call it. It was to better understand their conditions so he could learn how to better serve them as a Party member.
