February 1 marks the end of the hunting season in Spain, which means that thousands of galgos—Spanish greyhounds bred for hunting—will be abandoned on the streets today… if they’re lucky. 🧵

It’s so awful—I think I originally learned about this through you. And the Spanish law violates EU law and Brussels is just like 🤷🏻♀️. Give your sweet boy a head scratch for me.
Worldwide Galgo Day/Dia del Galgo is a campaign that seeks to raise awareness about the horrors perpetrated against these dogs—and, we hope, to outlaw such practices. It’s hard to imagine how anyone could torture a dog at all, but galgos in particular are such gentle souls.
Alfie the galgo was rescued off the streets by volunteers from @galgosdelsol.bsky.social & I am forever grateful. Every galgo deserves an equally happy ending.
Oh, I should add: please use caution if you decide to research galgos, because the images & descriptions of animal cruelty and torture are hard to unsee/unknow.
