IIRC lore has officially established that post-scarcity also means by the time of TOS, all portable Starfleet devices like tricorders, communicators and PADDs had what we would consider infinite storage capacity, at least equal to a shipboard computer's. It's just never a story point.
It's not storage capacity. It's just that they treat each PADD like its own E-mail or Tab. I imagine most people don't bother to merge them as it does help contextualize the differences between the information.
I've watched this series long enough to know the tech in star trek served the story. If a pad needed to hold lots of info, it held lots of info. Sometimes a tricorder could record all kinds of data, and sometimes limited data. It depended what the narrative wanted. And that's fine!
Every couple of months someone on reddit doesn't thread trying to justify multi-padd usage and I always wish I could reach through the screen and say "buddy, relax. It's funny"
whenever you talk about something not just hyper specific to a small group of people people who don’t follow you find it somehow and flood in and become extremely annoying and i don’t GET it
I always love doing this in my own comics because of Star Trek. Even if they’re dealing with digital screens, I love representing the cluttered headspace like having a messy unsorted desktop.
to be fair to them, every tablet I've ever used has such shit at displaying more than one thing at a time that if I had a magic box that could make me more tablets for free, you'd better believe my desk would be stacked with them
I think it's okay not to over rationalize it. It's just funny! The gang in the ready room sorting through multiple reports on a problem is human and relatable. If they were all beamed info into their brains it would take away the genuine interaction of the characters.
