Sunk cost paradox. They’ve thrown so much money away hoping for AI to solve all their problems and make them bigger fortunes that they can’t imagine stopping. If they do, that money is lost forever and payout could be right there waiting.

Same reason a bad gambler makes one more bet, then one more.

I've worked with and trained AI before (never what would be considered "generative" AI, more text recognition and classification stuff) and I struggle to find any practical uses for these models.

The only thing myself and a mate could come up with was something that could convert brain/nerve

Signals into images and vice versa. Might be able to "see" coma patients thoughts or in the other direction create synthetic eyes for the blind, but that's all we could come up with.

And that's NOT what these companies are working on.
