I have a feeling that a lot of the elderly male prostate Ca’s might fall into the overdiagosis window… should we be operating? 🤷🏼‍♀️🤔

That’s the million dollar question afaik - not sure how research is going to tell which of the high PSA results indicate a problem cancer vs one that won’t bother the man in his natural lifetime (the “die with rather them of it” ones).

No. Once detected you can only go forward and do some kind of treatment or wait and see, but the question is, are the lethal cancers born to be bad, even small, or does screening, finding sooner than by symptoms, influence survival rates? For breast cancer, questionable..... /1

I myself had breast cancer. Diagnosed at the age of 36, huge tumor, positive lymph nodes, missed on mammo and echo twice, finally found on MRI. I am almost 18 years after diagnosis. Why I am not dead? I wrote an inspiring book about it. It is for free.

Absolutely. I shared by ambivalence about going for my own first mammogram a few weeks ago for that reason. But there was a missing word in my post… I had meant to asked how **the** research was going for PSA-detected prostate cancers and working out which were likely to be indolent and which not

Yes.... To speak for myself, I had cancer once, I do not want to search for cancer if I do not experience symptoms. Every medical journey will reduce my quality of life.
