The Super Mario Bros. 3 Happy Meal, from McDonald's in 1990. One of the best Happy Meal sets ever, especially when you consider how few Nintendo figures existed at that time.

Man I still think of these as one of the best Happy Meal toys. Right behind the Changeables, and the Loony Toons characters with the snap on super hero costumes.
This immediately brings back vivid sensory memories - winding up the goomba and hearing the buzzing whirr as he walks (and stumbles over), the hard feel (and taste) of the cloud Luigi sits on, pulling down the spring on Mario's pogo stick, the limp cord when the koopa troops breaks...
Man - people who weren't around have no idea how little was available in the form of toys for video games back then. I was SO HYPED for this Happy Meal promotion because it gave me new Super Mario toys to add to the few Applause figures I had.
Oh yes, those Applause figures that were gloriously marked down to nothing on TRU clearance, but only available to those who knew to check deep in the video game accessories aisle!
I have all of them including the under 3 toy not shown here which was just a rubber raccoon Mario. Unfortunately the pumps with the Paratroopas are long gone and I never found them.

I had the Mario, Koopa, and Goomba

I also had some little rubber Ninja Figures that were "Koopalings."
(On a related note, I'm glad the Goomba is playable in MarioKart now, but I've missed Paratroopa since Double Dash).
“This was a happening!”
