Sure, it’s not necessarily a bad idea but if we’re talking SEC and Big 10 it’s universities putting money on the line rather than saving money, which might actually make it a better idea though

Yeah, the big TV contracts for football are the only way to make a major athletic dept self sustaining. I have my quant methods students do a problem set with these data and they're always shocked to learn how much they pay towards subsidizing out athletic dept.
