Yes, under the scenario you describe you’d plug the ethernet cable fom the main router into one of the TP-Link’s LAN ports (not its WAN/Internet port), and then in the TP Link's settings configure it as an “access point” (AP) and also disable its DHCP server setting.

Simpler solution would be a TP-Link EAP225 Access Point. You’d still want to give it a WiFi name (SSID) & password but you won’t need to mess with DHCP or router settings as it's just an access point. It has a single ethernet port to connect it to your main router.

Thanks, that's a bit dearer than the one in the picture I posted which says no configuration required so presumably it would just 'plug and play' as an access point without needing to go into settings?

I just looked at the prices and you're right the TP-Link AC1200 router is cheaper than most wireless access point-only devices. Here's some step-by-step instructions on TP-Link's web site that shows you how to configure it for your particular scenario:

When using the TP-Link as an access point you're extending your existing network not creating a separate network.
Your main router should handle all DHCP (IP address assignment) duties for the entire network.
Having two active DHCP servers on the same network can cause conflicts.
