I reached out to my trans kid’s school to ask how they intended to ensure that school was a safe and supportive place for my kiddo in the wake of these orders, and got crickets. I am happy to hear that other districts are making statements. I don’t hold a lot of hope for our rural Wisconsin town. 💔

I was in a scout troop in the 90’s at the height of the BSA’s gay panic, and I will always remember the meeting of all scouts and parents when our scoutmaster laid out that we would not be participating in any homophobic exclusion of gay scouts or adults and anyone who didn’t like that should leave

it’s dressed up in a lot of boilerplate but basically the main points are that the district will treat all students with respect and dignity, refuse to inquire about immigration status, and establish schools as resource centers for families facing immigration or civil rights threats

I have physically put all 4'11" inches of my body between ICE and my students when I was a teacher. I'm working with local school districts now as a human rights lady to combat them once again. Same goes for protecting trans students. They're not harming my community's kids without a fight.

Several local districts have done the same, and several MA cities have reaffirmed that they can't work with ICE on administrative warrants anyway by law. My work also confirmed today that we're changing nothing in terms of hiring and keeping a diverse and welcoming workforce
