For sure! I think a lot of it is about that immediate buzz from shitting this stuff into existence ("I've created this!"). There's a certain amount of self-delusion involved

Yeah. I mean don't get me wrong if I could spit my ideas into a computer and not write the fucking thing, I probably would because honestly if it's not a novella I get sick of writing it.
But it isn't any good. So I have to do it the old fashioned way. Sadly.

See, I think that's something I'd never be able to do. Even when it's painful, even when I have to claw to get the words out, fighting my self-doubt the whole way along, it's the most important thing to me. I need to have written it. It needs to come through me or it's not mine (or anyone's).

I wonder if that's where the difference lies, in that I just narrate, I don't feel connected to it? I mean I want to know what happened, I love the characters, but I don't feel like it comes from me?
In any case, I wouldn't publish if I hadn't written it. But it would be nice to see the story made!

Yes, exactly--it's a profoundly ableist argument, and I worry about the repercussions of implementing the use of LLMs and genAI in the context of neurodiverse and intellectually disabled students (this isn't coming out of nowhere--I found out about this recently from a conference paper), in that

RE the advocates--I always try, as best I can, to try and meet people where they are, as it's always hard to tell online if someone's asking a genuine question or not. It's probably the instructor in me 🤣

Honestly? I think anyone can cultivate talent. But not to innately have it, without any effort at all (a rare thing anyway), is no excuse for using AI.

particular to what's being done that I don't see a point a blanket definition of talent or its lack. The critique (at least for me--I can't speak for the OP) is against an argument that AI is filling a gap in accessibility, but the gap is laziness and a corresponding lack of a desire to develop

Absolutely! I really do think a big part of the problem is that we've attuned our minds to crave instant gratification. It's not about long-term success or a more sustained kind of happiness or fulfillment. It's about doing whatever it is (or getting something) as quickly as possible.
