Until that point, I was on my own. This is where our other co-founder of Summerfall comes in: Elie Young, though at the time they had zero interest in doing so. You see, Elie didn't work in the games industry. They came from the music industry, but for a time had been part of the Dragon Age fandom.

It was the first time they'd been in a fandom, in fact, and at one point they put together a charity art book dedicated to Dorian Pavus, called "Foritudo", raising funds for the National Center for Lesbian Rights and the Russian LGBT Network which worked to get gay/bi men safely out of Chechnya.

At any rate, Elie heard I was coming to Melbourne and offered to buy me a birthday drink as a small thank you.

Cut to the two of us having drinks in the Docklands, with me declaring Fosters draft as "the best beer ever!" (I was jet-lagged and already drunk, my only excuses, and Elie will never let me live it down). We got along instantly. At one point I drunkenly serenaded them with "Poor Unfortunate Souls".

Running GCAP is a madhouse, so Liam had zero time for me, but I didn't mind. In fact, Elie and I ended up hanging out together throughout the week. I told them why I'd really come, which they thought was interesting... but I don't think getting involved had even crossed their mind by this point.

At any rate, finally GCAP is over. PAX Aus starts, and I sit down with an exhausted Liam to discuss this whole starting a studio idea.

I'm still not sure how it happened, honestly, but within 20 minutes we'd moved on from whether we'd start a studio to what our new studio's first project would be.
